Farmer rescued from grain bin in Clark County

UPDATE @ 6:07 p.m.: A farmer trapped in a grain bin this afternoon was freed by Tru Point workers in nearby South Charleston.

Within 15 minutes of falling into the bin, corn was up to the man’s waist. The incident was reported around 1:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of Summerford Road in Harmony Twp.

In addition to the local fire rescue, a farmhand contacted Tru Point in nearby South Charleston because workers have been trained in grain rescue.

“We used a shop vac to suck that grain away from the farmer to where he could on his own power get in to relieve the pressure,” said Dan Roncolato of Tru Pointe.

“I would say the bin was a 10,000 bushel bin and he probably had 2- or 3,000 bushels in there,” he said.

The farmer, who declined to talk, held on while workers worked to free him. He was finally out by around 1:45 p.m., according to reports.
