WAYNESVILLE —

A water quality advisory has been posted at Caesar Creek Lake because bacteria levels exceed Ohio Department of Natural Resources standards.

Signs posted at the lake’s beaches over the weekend alert swimmers that children, the elderly and those in ill health could be at risk and are advised not to go in the water.

People swimming at the lake on Tuesday told News Center 7 that it was so hot out they were willing to risk it and go in the water.

According to the Ohio Department of Health’s “BeachGuard” website the advisory was issued on June 18. A water sample on that day contained 720 colonies of E. Coli per 100 milliliters of water, exceeding the recommendation for public beaches of 235 colonies per 100 ml.

The water will be tested continually and the advisory will remain in effect until levels come down.
