W. Carrollton Fire Dept. adds captain to its ranks

Nick Sanders is being promoted to captain in the West Carrollton Fire Department.

He took the oath of office during a city council meeting on Tuesday, according to a statement from the department.

Sanders, a West Carrollton High School graduate, has earned certifications as a firefighter level 2, paramedic, fire service instructor and fire inspector during his time with the department. His resume includes a stint as a firefighter-paramedic with the Miami Valley Fire District.

“When I was 16 years old, I became an explorer for the fire department in West Carrollton and knew then it was my goal to be a fire captain,” Sanders said. “Growing up in West Carrollton and graduating from West Carrollton High School has always made me feel like the fire department was home.”

Sanders will become one of the three captains in the department, along with Andy Shepherd and Adam Blake.

“Nick is well respected in the fire service community and I am confident he will continue the tradition of providing excellent service to the citizens of West Carrollton,” Fire Chief Chris Barnett said in a prepared statement.

Sanders replaces Capt. Ed Huffman, who has retired.
