Greg Mann, the Northeastern High School teacher whose contract was not renewed for this fall, is now on indefinite paid leave.

District Superintendent Lou Kramer confirmed that development involving the popular social studies teacher late Monday afternoon.

Mann was told earlier this year that his contract wouldn't be renewed, and the issue came up in a school board meeting Thursday night.

Despite support from parents, the student body president, the valedictorian of the 2014 graduating class and a math teacher at the school, the school board voted to not renew Mann's contract.

Monday, he was told a substitute will cover his classes.

Kramer, when asked why Mann is on paid leave, said, "Given the emotions of the situation, I think it's a prudent move."
