Oregon District renamed to honor OSU title run

The Oregon Historic District has been renamed the Buckeye District ahead of the national championship game between the Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley on Monday signed a proclamation temporarily renaming the historic neighborhood. She said it is a way of “being in solidarity” with Ohio State University, which will battle with the University of Oregon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Monday night, Jan. 12.

“You can’t refer to it as the Oregon District for the entire week, until after the game,” Whaley said.

The Dayton region has helped OSU with its athletic excellence, providing players including Braxton Miller, Isaiah Williams, Rashad Frazier, Taylor Decker, Cam Burrows and Michael Bennett, the proclamation says.

The Oregon Historic District was already 30 years old when the state of Oregon was founded, it says.
