Navistar union ratifies 4-year contract

A local union approved a new four-year-contract with Navistar on Sunday that calls for raises and profit sharing payouts.

The United Auto Workers Local 402 approved the contract by 65 percent during its vote that followed seven months of negotiations with one of Clark County’s largest employers.

The contract, which will expire Oct. 18, 2018, includes a $1,000 signing bonus and a $1,000 profit sharing payout each year of the agreement that the company makes a profit for eligible workers during the first and third year. During the second and fourth years, eligible workers would receive a 2 percent wage increase.

UAW Local 402 President Jason Barlow said the agreement means job security for the 1,400 workers, including 90 UAW 658 workers, at the Springfield plant.
