ID released of toddler who drowned in family pond

The child who drowned has been identified as 3-year-old Molly Murphy, according to the sheriff’s office.

FIRST UPDATE

A 3-year-old girl has died in an accidental drowning, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said.

A family member found the child in one of two ponds at the family’s property on North state Route 48, between Versailles Road and West Miami-Shelby Road, Sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Wheeler said.

Deputies and a Covington rescue squad were called to the address about 7:30 p.m.

Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Adams was first on scene and started CPR, Wheeler said. The child was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Wheeler said no other information would be released tonight.
