Loose horse causes crash in Huber Heights

Loose horses are to blame for a crash that injured one driver on Bellefontaine Road in Huber Heights.

Police and medics were called out around 3 a.m. Wednesday on reports of horses in the intersection of Bellefontaine and Fishburg Roads, with two cars striking one of the horses according to Huber Heights Police Sgt. William Garlow.

One of the cars was traveling south on Bellefountaine Road and struck a horse standing in the middle of the intersection, then crashed into a pole. Officers say the second vehicle involved was traveling north and also struck the same horse.

“You always have to be alert as a driver, but I don’t think drivers driving in this area would expect to encounter a horse in the roadway and it was probably very tough to see,” Garlow said.

One driver did not suffer any injuries while the other suffered a non-life threatening injury to the head and was transported to the hospital. Police believe both drivers were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred.

The horse struck in the crashes was killed according to police.

The second horse has yet to be found. Sighting of the loose horse should be reported to the Huber Heights Police Department.

Neither driver will be cited in the crash.
