Firefighters pass house fire, alert residents

Firefighters passing through a neighborhood helped sleeping occupants evacuate their home after they saw smoke from the outside.

Officials say an engine crew was passing through the area around 2 a.m. Saturday on the way to Miami Valley Hospital when they saw smoke coming from the roof of a home in the 1st block of High Street in Dayton.

That crew called for a full response to help extinguish the fire while they entered the home to help get the occupants out. All occupants were able to evacuate safely with no injuries reported.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but enough damage was done to the house to displace the occupants and will be forced to stay with family.

The fire remains under investigation and officials have not identified a potential cause of the blaze.
