Fire damages pole, zaps power in Darke County

More than 300 American Electric Power customers are without power because of a fire that damaged a power pole.

AEP crews are working to replace at least one pole in an area southeast of the city. Fire crews were dispatched on a report of a utility pole fire and a blown transformer.

There has been no word on what caused the fire.

Darke County sheriff’s deputies have shut down the intersection of Beamsville-Union City Road at state Route 571 and a second area at Amspaugh Road and state Route 571 so crews could do their work.

According to AEPOhio.com, an estimated 338 customers were without electric service at 8:40 p.m.

We’re told crews could be working in the area for several hours.
