Fire damages Miller Flowers greenhouse

A fire damaged a small portion of the greenhouse operation at Miller Flowers in Darke County early this morning.

The business is open today, after a passing motorist spotted flames around 3 a.m. on his way to work. The Miller family says if not for him, the damage could have been much more extensive at the business, at 2200 West Ohio 571, just east of Union City, Ohio.

The motorist called 911 and beat on the door to the Miller home.

The fire was contained to about a 100 foot section of the greenhouse. The Miller’s have about 15,000 feet of greenhouses under plastic in their grow operation.

A gas operated heater is suspected as the possible cause of the fire.

An estimate of damage is yet to be tabulated.

No one was hurt.
