Fire closes eatery, some offices in Kettering Tower

An overnight electrical fire led to some offices and the Dayton Racquet Club to close today at the Kettering Tower in downtown Dayton.

An email newsletter sent out by the Dayton Racquet Club said there was a fire overnight in the building and the restaurant would be closed today and Friday. The newsletter said the restaurant and fitness center should reopen Monday.

Those who work in the building said they were told offices on the 11th floor and up were closed today.

An employee in the Kettering Tower management office declined to comment on the situation.

Taft Stettinius & Hollister, Dayton Development Coalition and JP Morgan Chase are among tenants located in the building.

Officials with the building’s owner, New York-based Dunkirk Realty, announced in December they are marketing the office building and are looking for potential buyers. Dunkirk Reality bought the 500,000-square-foot office building for $6.4 million in 2012.

Dayton’s tallest office building is being marketed to potential buyers through HFF Indianapolis.

The 30-story Kettering Tower was built in 1971 for $73 million. Renovations of the property were completed as recently as 2012.
