Fire, smoke damage 5 units in Xenia apt. complex

UPDATE @ 10:50 p.m.: One person will be displaced for sure in the wake of a kitchen fire that caused heavy damage to one unit at the Foxglove Apartments in the 1400 block of Colorado Drive.

Xenia Fire Chief Ken Riggsby said there were no injuries, but the flames helped produce a lot of smoke that damaged four other apartments in the 12-unit complex.

Riggsby said it was too soon to put a dollar estimate on the damage caused by the smoke and flames, and his investigators are continuing to trace the origin of the blaze.

UPDATE @ 10:31 p.m.: We talked to a man who said he ran into a burning apartment to help rescue an elderly woman.

The witness, Mark Raby, said the fire started on the stove in the woman’s unit at the Foxglove Apartments, in the 1400 block of Colorado Drive.

Xenia firefighters were able to get the blaze under control, but it may have displaced some residents.

We’re on scene and are working to learn more details from fire officials.
