Man escapes burning West Carrollton home

UPDATE @ 4 a.m.:

A man was able to safely evacuate his house after he woke up to it filled with smoke.

Fire crews from West Carrollton, Moraine, and the Miami Valley Fire District were called out dispatched around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to the 1200 block of Sherwood Forest Drive on reports of a fully engulfed house fire.

The home’s only resident, identified as a middle-aged man, woke up to smoke inside his house, evacuated the home and saw the roof was on fire according to West Carrollton Fire Chief Chris Barnett.

“The gentleman, when he saw the fire, went outside the building, called the fire department and stayed out of the building,” Barnett said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze is unknown.

The house is being considered a total loss and crews have contacted the Dayton-Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Fire crews have responded to a house fire in the 1200 block of Sherwood Forest Drive in West Carrollton.

Initial reports indicate all residents were able to safely evacuate the house and firefighters will be taking a defensive approach to fighting the blaze.
