2-alarm blaze destroys Springfield home

UPDATE @ 9 a.m.:

Firefighters say a home that caught fire early Saturday morning in Springfield is being considered a total loss.

Crews say the two adults living in the home in the 1500 block of Belmont Avenue were awoken by their dogs barking, and found their living room on fire. The fire quickly spread to the attic of the home, and then completely engulfed the roof.

All occupants were able to evacuate safely with no injuries reported. The residents will be assisted by the American Red Cross.

FIRST REPORT

Firefighters in Springfield are battling a two-alarm house fire in the 1500 block of North Belmont Avenue.

Crews were called to the scene around 5 a.m. Saturday on a fire reported inside the home’s living room.

Reports indicate the fire spread to other rooms of the home before fully engulfing the structure, but no injuries were initially reported.
