Another frigid night on tap; rain/snow Thursday

Expect few clouds and chilly air with temperatures falling into the teens as refreeze once again will be an issue on back roads and shoulders of main roads tonight, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek said Tuesday afternoon.

The continued snowpack and a mostly clear sky will produce another really cold night. Lows will dip into the upper single digits and it will be even colder north (Darke, Mercer, Shelby, Logan).

Wednesday: Mostly sunny skies and a bit milder, with highs near 30.

Thursday: A quick moving system will draw in even milder air before bringing rain during morning. A very brief onset of freezing rain is possible with temps near freezing at sunrise.

Highs will climb close to 40 by afternoon.

As the system works across the area, cold air will quickly funnel in to change rain to snow for a bit late afternoon and into the evening before ending. In Butler and Warren counties, less snow is expected.

Enough snow may fall for a small accumulation. But with temps dropping into the 20s, slick roads are likely in the evening and into the Friday morning commute.

Friday: Partly sunny, cold. Highs in the upper 20s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy. Highs near freezing.

Sunday: A rather broad and classic storm system for this time of the year will develop and move in from the southwest during the day. The way it stands now, enough cold air will be in place for this to be a snow event — with a possible extended period of snow, heavy at times.

This system could yield several inches of snow — if the pattern shapes up the way it looks now. Any extra surge of mild air ahead of the system could make for a drastic change in the type of precipitation. Highs will be in the upper 20s.

In the Butler and Warren county area, there is the potential for some sleet to mix with the snow.
