MORROW —

The body of a Warren County Marine fatally shot Sunday in Southern California arrived home Saturday.

Marine Cpl. Steven Kohus, a 2006 Little Miami High School graduate, was shot in the head Sunday night at a home in Twentynine Palms, Calif., according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A fellow Marine, Brock Myers, 22, was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held without bond in the Morongo Basin Jail and is scheduled to appear in court March 12, according to online jail records.

Kohus, who joined the Marines in 2010, was stationed at the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, WCPO-TV in Cincinnati reported.

On Friday, Little Miami High School honored Kohus by adding his photo to the "Wall of Honor," which recognizes the military service of graduates.

"We wanted to show (Kohus') parents that we love them and we're praying for them to get through this," Wanda Crosley, who started the wall eight years ago, told WCPO.

A group of supporters Saturday afternoon lined the streets with yellow ribbons and American flags as Kohus' body was escorted to the Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home in Loveland.

Investigators have released few details in Kohus' death.

According to a news release, deputies responded at 9:21 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 7300 block of Saladin Avenue in Twentynine Palms. Kohus was found with a fatal gunshot wound. Myers, who was at the residence, was immediately detained by San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies.

Funeral visitation for Kohus is 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Drive, Loveland. Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Coumban Church, 894 Oakland Road, Loveland, followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Steven Kohus Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o First National Bank, 541 W. Pike St., Morrow, OH 45152.
