NEW CARLISLE, Ohio —

Investigators said a man shot his girlfriend in the arm, but the suspect said he never intended to shoot her.

Deputies in Clark County said they found the woman injured in a home in the 600 block of Spinning Avenue in New Carlisle on Tuesday night.

Chris Milem, 39, told deputies that he remembered firing three shots, but did not mean to shoot his girlfriend.

On Wednesday morning, Milem pleaded not guilty to felonious assault, domestic violence and having weapons under disability.

Deputies arrived and found Milem and his girlfriend outside of the house. They said the woman had a gunshot wound to her arm and was taken to a Springfield hospital.

She told authorities that Milem shot her. Milem said he was high and thought he was protecting his house, but never meant to shoot his girlfriend, according to deputies.

Authorities said the woman’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. Milem remains in the Clark County Jail.
