1 home evacuated after gas leak in Springfield

UPDATE @ 3:29 p.m.

The gas line was ruptured during a dig by the city water department, according to Shanelle Hinkle-Moore of Columbia Gas of Ohio.

One home was temporarily evacuated in the 500 block of East Cassilly Street.

Hinkle-Moore said there are about 60 customers without gas service. That service is expected to be restored by 5 p.m.

EARLIER

Construction crews working in a Springfield neighborhood struck a gas line, causing a major leak.

The gas like was hit in the area of East Cassilly and Olive streets in Springfield. As of 1:30 p.m., Columbia Gas was working to clamp the gas line.

Area residents have been evacuated.
