Flag convoy travels through Miami Valley

About 100 cars, pickup trucks and motorcycles with Confederate Flags flapping in the wind began a motorcade rally in Troy shortly before noon on Saturday.

They traveled through Tipp City, Vandalia, Englewood, West Milton, Pleasant Hill, Covington and ended about 75 miles later in Piqua at the Harley-Davidson dealership on U.S. 36.

“States’ rights, don’t mess with my history, don’t touch my flag, and don’t touch my ancestors’ monuments. That’s my message,” said participant Michael Lovejoy of Xenia.

The event was organized by Joe Gibson of Tipp City.

Troy police were very visible “in case of problems,” said Sgt. Joe Stutz.

There were no reported incidents during the rally, participants of which raised money to benefit the Wounded Warriors fund.
