Dayton firefighters rescue dog from burning home

Firefighters in Dayton rescued a dog from a burning home this morning.

Crews were dispatched shortly after 9 a.m.. to the home on Vernon Driver near West Riverview Avenue.

The home was thought to be vacant, but firefighters discovered a dog inside and carried it out to safety.

The home was destroyed by the fire. An official said they were given a wrong address initially and the fire was raging by the time crews arrived.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
