Woman on run after graduation furlough arrested

A Trenton woman who failed to return to jail after a she was given a furlough to attend her son’s graduation has been found by police.

Alison Burge, 35, was arrested this morning at a Hamilton motel, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s office. She is in the Warren County Jail awaiting arraignment on escape charges.

Burge, who was originally charged with felony drug possession in 2013, was given a furlough Saturday by Warren County Common Pleas Judge Robert Peeler to attend her son’s high school graduation and to have lunch with him, according to the order signed May 22 by Peeler. Peeler said in the Furlough order that Burge was to be released from the Warren County Jail at 9:30 a.m., and was told to return by 4 p.m.

“Defendant’s failure to return to the county jail will result in escape charges being filed,” Peeler wrote on the order.

Burge was originally given a chance to seek treatment in lieu of conviction, but was found to be in violation, according to court documents. She was placed on community control, which she violated.

Burge had been given a furlough earlier this month for a dental appointment and returned to jail.

In her letter to the judge on May 11, Burge requested at two-week furlough to attend graduation, move her belongings and find homes for her cats.
