BELLEFONTAINE —

A woman arrested in the Feb.16 fatal hit-and-run crash that killed Marine Gunnery Sgt. Monica Plank has been released on bond from the Logan County Jail.

Holly Fowler, 26, of Urbana, was arraigned Tuesday morning in Bellefontaine Municipal Court.

Fowler, charged with felony failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence charges, did not enter a plea. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Tuesday night, an officer at the county jail said Fowler was released on bond early Tuesday afternoon. According to court record, Fowler was being detained on a surety bond, which means someone had to put up property -- a house, for example -- to get her out.

The officer at the jail said he didn't know who posted the bond for Fowler.

According to Bellefontaine police, officers were following leads in the case at a bowling alley, located four blocks from the crash, when they interviewed Fowler and examined her vehicle.

Her burgundy Chevy Malibu bore evidence of damage consistent with the damage from the hit-skip scene, police said.

Initially, Fowler repeatedly denied any involvement in the incident and denied knowing how the damage to her car occurred. But in a later interview at the Bellefontaine Police Department, she admitted responsibility for striking Plank on Feb. 16.

"We are relieved that we have been able to bring this case to some sort of closure for Mr. Plank and his family," Police Chief Brandon Standley said. "Our investigators have worked tirelessly to bring this case to a close, and we are confident we have built a solid case."
