Vandalia woman sentenced in insurance fraud case

A Vandalia woman was sentenced to five years of supervised probation early this month after being found guilty of insurance fraud, according to a press release from the Ohio Department of Insurance.

Sherri Yarbrough was also ordered to repay $67,738 to the unidentified insurance company she defrauded. She was sentenced May 12 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

An Ohio Department of Insurance investigation found that Yarbrough submitted false receipts in support of alleged losses related to a homeowner’s insurance claim, the release said.

“When individuals decide to defraud their insurance company we all pay the price in the form of higher insurance rates,” said Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, who is also director of the Ohio Department of Insurance. “I am very happy with the results of this case because the individual who stole thousands from her insurance company has been held accountable for her crimes.”

Ohioans who suspect insurance fraud or professional misconduct should call the department’s fraud hotline at 800-686-1527. Insurance fraud information is available at www.insurance.ohio.gov.
