Threatening message found in school bathroom

A threatening message was discovered in an elementary bathroom as students were taking state tests today.

The message was found in a bathroom at East Elementary in Urbana this morning, said superintendent Charles Thiel. Police were called and were able to determine the threat was not credible, he said.

Students were in the middle of state testing when the threat was found, and were not impacted, he said. The bathroom was blocked during the investigation.

East Elementary students will go home with a letter explaining the situation, and a district-wide recording will go out to parents, Thiel said.
