Tecumseh bus driver indicted for gross sexual imposition, rape

A former Tecumseh Local Schools bus driver accused of raping an 11-year-old boy he reportedly drove on his bus route has been indicted.

Adam J. Overholser, 21, of New Carlisle, was indicted by a Clark County grand jury this week on six counts of gross sexual imposition and a single count of rape. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Friday in Clark County Common Pleas Court.

Superintendent Bradley Martin confirmed Overholser resigned his position with the school district Dec. 4, the same day he was arrested by Clark County Sheriff's Office deputies on school grounds. He also said the Ohio Department of Education has suspended Overholser's license, which would prevent him from working for any school district.

Authorities said the boy's mother contacted them to report her son was being sexually abused. After a forensic interview, the child said he had multiple sexual encounters with Overholser between May and September.

Officials at the sheriff's office said Overholser allegedly developed a friendship with the boy while driving a school bus for Tecumseh schools, although district officials said he only became a bus driver with the district in August.

The sheriff's office said the sexual acts reportedly occurred in locations across Clark, Champaign and Miami counties. School officials said they do not believe the incidents happened on school grounds or during school hours.

Overholser remains in the Clark County Jail on $100,000 bond. He's asked for a public defender to represent him in this case.
