Robbery motive in deadly Brooklyn Ave. shooting?

Police continue to investigate the deaths of two men and a woman in Thursday night's Brooklyn Avenue shooting. Here are the highlights:

  • The victims lived together
  • Police: One theory — robbery
  • Drugs, cash found in home
  • Police have no suspect or suspects
  • Homicides are Dayton's second, third this year

UPDATE @ 5:30 p.m. (Jan. 30): DeAndre Crane and Damionna Goodall, 22 and 21, who died of their gunshot wounds, lived in the home, Dayton Lt. Wendy Stiver said. Police aren't sure of the relationship Crane and Goodall had with the third victim, 20-year-old Dashawn Robinson.

Investigators believe drugs are involved in what happened, Stiver said, because police found a quantity of drugs and cash in the home. She declined to give details about the drugs or how much cash was seized.

Stiver also said investigators are working on the likelihood the suspect or suspects had come to the residence to meet with the victims and there may have been robbery. Police have no suspect or suspects, she said. Investigators also are still working to determine whether an incident involving gunshots fired into an apartment building, in the 2000 block of Catalpa, is connected to the Brooklyn Avenue homicides.

UPDATE @ 11:30 a.m. (Jan. 30): Dashawn Robinson, 20, the third victim in a shooting on Brooklyn Avenue, went into surgery at Miami Valley Hospital and is in the ICU, according to police.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is performing autopsies this afternoon DeAndre Crane, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and Damionna Goodall, who died at the hospital.

UPDATE @ 5:05 a.m. (Jan. 30): The Montgomery County Coroner's Office confirmed a second victim in the shooting has died.

The coroner’s office identified her as Damionna Goodall, 21, of Dayton. The man who was killed was identified as DeAndre Crane, 22, of Dayton.

UPDATE @ 10:30 p.m. (Jan. 29): All three victims of the shooting in the 600 block of Brooklyn Avenue were found inside the house, Dayton Sgt. Andrew Gillig said. The fatality died at the scene. He and the others — a female and another male — are all believed to be in their 20s.

Police are trying to determine where the shooting began, Gillig said, but he agreed it’s fair to say shots were fired inside and outside the residence. There are no suspects, he said, and police also are working to confirm whether anyone else was in the house at the time of the shooting.

Gillig also said police are investigating the possibility that an incident reported about 7:56 p.m. at an apartment building in the 2000 block of Catalpa Drive, which involved someone firing a weapon into a habitation, is connected to the Brooklyn Avenue homicide.

No one was injured in the Catalpa Drive shots fired call.

The Brooklyn Avenue homicide is the second in Dayton this year.

UPDATE @ 9:44 p.m.: One male is dead and two other victims are believed to be in serious condition in the residential shooting in the 600 block of Brooklyn Avenue.

Dayton homicide detectives have been called to what appears to be a duplex at the corner of Fairbanks Avenue. Police on scene are confirming reports from neighbors that 10 to 15 rounds were fired in the melee.

Other than confirmation that the fatality is male, police have not yet released any detailed information about the ages or genders of the victims

UPDATE @ 9:33 p.m.: Investigators are finding several shell casings inside what appears to be a duplex in the 600 block of Brooklyn Avenue, on the front porch and out in the street along Fairbanks Avenue.

Crime scene tape continues to block traffic at Brooklyn and Fairbanks avenues as the investigation continues.

FIRST REPORT (Jan. 29)

Police and medic units are on the scene of a shooting on Brooklyn Avenue.

One victim has been removed from the residence at the corner of Fairbanks and Brooklyn avenues out 8:38 p.m. It’s very early in the investigation, so police have not offered any statements about what occurred inside the house. The condition of the victim is not immediately available.

Neighbors say they heard 10 to 15 gunshots.

Police have put up crime scene tape three houses deep east and west on Fairbanks, north and south on Brooklyn. Police and two medic units were dispatched just before 8:30 p.m.
