Police arrest suspect in Dollar General robbery

UPDATE @ 8:08 p.m.:

Willie James Henry, 39, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail tonight on suspicion of aggravated robbery, a felony. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon, online jail records show.

FIRST REPORT

Police caught a robbery suspect this afternoon after he fled with a cash box from a local Dollar General store.

The robbery was reported just after 3:30 p.m. at the store at 445 Salem Ave. near the West Grand Avenue intersection.

The suspect demanded money and told the clerk he had a gun, but did not show the weapon before he ran outside with the store’s cash box, according to police.

Officers patroling the area spotted the suspect after he ran west from the store, and caught him several blocks away on Grafton Avenue. The cash box and its contents were recovered, and the suspect was handcuffed and taken to police headquarters for questioning, according to police.

The suspect’s name was not immediately released. He was described as a man in his late 30s or early 40s.

Police said the suspect arrested today is not linked to a robbery reported shortly after noon Tuesday at a Dollar General on North Gettysburg Avenue. In that case, the suspect disguised his face with a mask. Police used a K-9 to help canvass the area, but were unable to find the suspect.
