Police: 4-y-o in car during attempted drug deal

Charles Cline was found guilty of child endangering through Dayton Municipal Court.

Additional charges including drug paraphernalia and possessing drug abuse instruments were withdrawn by the court.

Cline was ordered to 180 days in jail, of which all days were suspended or credited; a $111 court cost fee which was suspended and a year of probation, of which he was released from in May 2016, according to Dayton Municipal Court.

Police on routine patrol in Dayton observed what appeared to be a drug deal happening between two vehicles on Shaftsbury Drive.

One, a silver Pontiac Grand Prix, was recognized as a drug dealer’s vehicle that had fled several recent traffic stops; the other, a 1998 Buick LeSabre, was driven by 28-year-old Charles K. Cline, according to the Dayton police report.

When police approached the two vehicles, the Pontiac sped away recklessly through a red light; Cline’s vehicle was stopped in heavy traffic on Salem Avenue, according to the report.

Police didn’t find drugs, but found drug abuse instruments and Cline’s girlfriend’s 4-year-old child, according to the report.

Cline was arrested on suspicion of child endangering, among other charges. His girlfriend was called to pick up her son, according to the report.
