Coroner: Man was beaten to death in Auglaize Co.

By Breaking News Staff

A man who was found dead inside his apartment had been beaten to death, the Auglaize County coroner said.

The coroner ruled Charles E. Hicks' death a homicide.

The 53-year-old Uniopolis man suffered crushing injuries to the front of his neck during a beating by an assailant or assailants, the coroner said in a news release. He died within minutes of the attack, which the coroner said happened sometime on Saturday night, between 8 p.m. and midnight.

No arrests have been made.

Neighbors called police on Monday and said they had not seen Hicks since Saturday. They said his truck was parked outside, his television was on, but there was no answer at the door.

Deputies went out at about 4:30 p.m. Monday. They called crime scene investigators around 6 p.m. to the apartment. Deputies remained on the scene until about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff's office said the investigation involves the Auglaize County Coroner's Office and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (419) 739-6555.
