Man arrested following traffic stop in Springfield

Springfield police arrested a man after he ran from officers during a traffic stop.

Just before 9 a.m. an officer attempted to pull over a green pickup truck on Linn Street and South Yellow Spring Street in Springfield, police said.

The driver of the vehicle fled from the stop on foot, prompting a short foot chase down railroad tracks near High Street and Yellow Springs Street before he was taken into custody, police said.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene, officers said, because it is believe the suspect was armed and officers followed the track of the foot chase with the dog to search for the gun.

No name of the suspect or initial reason for the traffic stop has been released at this time.
