Greene Co. family seeks justice for pet shepherd

A Greene County family is asking for help to find the person who shot and killed their pet German shepherd.

Ken and Derrie Edge said Wednesday night they let out their dog, Eva, to relieve itself on their 30-acre East Krepps Road farm.

The family, which includes nine children living at home, noticed the dog hadn’t returned when they said their prayers that night.

The next day the family distributed flyers and took to Facebook in hopes of finding her.

On Friday, they got a message from a friend.

Eva’s body was found on the side of the road near Anderson and Waynesville Jamestown roads.

Ken said it appeared the dog had been dumped there.

A veterinarian examined the body and determined the dog was shot from behind, possibly as it was running away from the shooter.

A sergeant at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said the incident was reported by the family on Friday.

Derrie said they got Eva four years ago through a rescue organization. She said the dog had a rough past, and didn’t deserve this fate.

“She was a sweetheart,” Derrie said. “No animal deserves this, but (Eva) deserved to be loved. She was the most perfect dog for a family: So kind and gentle with the kids, but protective.”

If you have information that can help in identifying who shot Eva, call the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 376-5111.
