Chief: Fire ‘suspicious’ at vacant Trotwood home

UPDATE @ 10:09 p.m.:

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a back room after alert neighbors spotted smoke and flames coming from the house, Trotwood Fire Chief Steve Milliken said.

Crews were called around 8:30 p.m. to a home on Mandalay Drive.

“Right now it’s going to be listed as suspicious,” Milliken said.

No one was inside the residence, which was empty. The property owner said a tenant was supposed to be moving in next week, however, the ranch-style house is temporarily uninhabitable after it sustained an estimated $10,000 to $20,000 damage, the chief said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Milliken said.

FIRST REPORT

A fire was reported tonight at a vacant house.

Crews were called shortly after 8:30 p.m. to a ranch-style house with a two-car garage in the 3600 block of Mandalay Drive.

Firefighters were quickly able to put out the fire.

The house was empty, and it’s not clear what may have caused the fire.

We are on scene and will update this report as we learn details.
