BELLEFONTAINE —

A Logan County grand jury has indicted the woman accused in a February fatal hit-and-run crash on two felony counts.

Holly Fowler, 26, of Urbana, was indicted Tuesday on charges of failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence.

She was accused of driving the vehicle that struck and killed Marine Gunnery Sergeant Monica Plank as she walked home from the 68 Grill on South Main Street in Bellefontaine just after midnight on Feb. 16. Plank was walking in the street because the sidewalks were piled with snow.

Plank and her husband Chris were on leave from the Marines and were visiting family in Ohio with their five children when she was killed.

After asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle with front right bumper damage, Bellefontaine Police got a tip leading them to a local bowling alley, four blocks from the crash scene.

When they located Fowler and examined her vehicle, the burgundy Chevy Malibu had evidence of damage consistent with the collision, police said.

Fowler initially denied any involvement in the fatal crash and denied knowing how the damage to her car occurred, but in a later interview at the Bellefontaine Police Department, she admitted responsibility for striking Plank and was arrested on Feb. 22.

She has been out of jail on bond since Feb. 25. A summons to appear in court was issued Tuesday along with the indictment, according to court records, but her next court date is not listed.
