UPDATE at 12:15 p.m.

Dayton police are rallying around Sgt. Lowe and his family and the family of Rhonda Boyer, Lowe's girlfriend who was killed in the hit/skip crash, according to Sgt. Aaron Fraley.

Lowe is recovering from his injuries at Miami Valley Hospital.

Fraley said charges against Hawks, the driver who allegedly fled the scene after causing the crash, could be upgraded.

UPDATE at 10:54 a.m.

Police have released more details about the crash.

According to Dayton Police Sgt. Aaron Fraley, the suspect Jeremy Wayne Hawks was driving a red Nissan pickup when he attempted to turn left from westbound Germantown Street onto Conners Street. Sgt. Lowe was headed home from a private event going east on Germantown Street when he struck Hawks' truck.

Hawks is being held on a felony charge of fleeing the scene of an accident. Fraley said charges may be added or changed as the investigation continues.

Fraley said it remains unclear why Hawks fled the scene.

Police confirmed Monday morning that Jeremy Wayne Hawks, 43, is the suspect who allegedly fled the scene of the accident that killed Rhonda Boyer and left Dayton Police Sgt. Gary Lowe recovering from injuries at Miami Valley Hospital.

Lowe was listed in good condition Monday morning, according to the hospital.

Police are expected to release more details about what happened later Monday.

The crash happened late Saturday night at Germantown and Conners streets. Lowe, who sources say was off-duty at the time, was riding a motorcycle with passenger Boyer, who was killed when the motorcycle apparently collided with another vehicle, allegedly driven by Hawks.

Police in Dayton are not releasing many details about an investigation into a fatal crash involving a motorcycle Saturday night.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office confirmed that Rhonda Boyer, 52, of Farmersville, was killed in the crash, which happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. at Conners and Germantown streets.

A Dayton police sergeant said an investigation is underway, but no details were released about what happened. Share your condolences for Rhonda Boyer.

Reports from multiple sources indicate Boyer was a passenger on a motorcycle that was being driven by a Dayton police officer who was off-duty.

Those reports indicate the motorcycle was struck by another vehicle that fled the scene, and the police officer was also injured.

A check at Miami Valley Hospital indicates a man with the same name as the police officer was in the surgery department Sunday afternoon.

The supervisor in charge of the investigation said details of the investigation would be released Monday.
