A Kettering police officer uses a camera as part of the investigation of a loud noise and smell on Wednesday night, March 26, 2014, that prompted a callout of the Dayton Bomb Squad.

The Dayton Bomb Squad detonated an explosive device early this morning in Kettering, and now they are searching for whoever placed it there.

Police were called to the 4300 block of Grayson Street on Wednesday night when neighbors heard a loud explosion. They found a device had gone off around 11 p.m., and then discovered a second one unexploded.

They safely detonated it around 3:30 a.m. today.

"It was a little nerve racking to be honest with you," said neighborhood resident Ben Smith. "I didn't know how large it was or what it entailed."

The first unknown device left a strange smell in the neighborhood after it exploded.

Police say no residents saw anyone place the devices in the area. They are investigating.
