Blaze in vacant Dayton house deemed ‘suspicious’

UPDATE @7:30 p.m.:

The house on Verona Road that caught fire was vacant and fire crews believe squatters may have been involved.

Dayton fire Capt. Tom Cope said there was furniture in the house, suggesting people may have been living there illegally.

According to Cope, the fire was suspicious in nature and is under investigation. There was no one in the structure when crews arrived and no one was hurt.

About a quarter of the home was affected, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage, he said.
