Arrest in Shelby turns up marijuana operation

A visit to a residence to arrest a man on charges related to cocaine netted authorities possible extra charges when they found marijuana ready for sale.

Adam Kelly, 29, already under indictment handed up by a Shelby County grand jury on two counts of drug trafficking in cocaine, now likely will be charged with drug possession and other drug-related charges based on Friday’s visit to his address, Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart said.

Deputies and U.S. Marshals went to 10818 Little Turtle Way to arrest Kelly on the cocaine charges.

While searching the residence for Kelly, deputies and marshals located a marijuana trafficking operation that turned up “a significant amount of marijuana packaged for sale,” scales, a safe, plastic Baggies and $2,900 in cash, Lenhart said in a prepared statement.

Kelly was taken to the county jail on the trafficking charges and other charges are likely pending a meeting with the county prosecutor’s office, Lenhart said.

Kelly was released after he posted bond, a jailer said Friday night.
