The father of a 4-year-old critically injured by a pellet gun last month has been indicted on a felony charge.

Joe C. Little, 30, of Anonsia, was indicted by a Darke County grand jury on one count of endangering children, the Early Bird Paper reports.

The young child was hit once in the navel area around 9 p.m. June 5 with an air powered pellet rifle in the 600 block of East Canal Street in Ansonia. The incident was believed to be accidental, according to the Darke County Sheriff's Office.

Ansonia police said the child was flown to Dayton Children's Hospital and was admitted into intensive care following surgery.

Little is out of jail on his own recognizance and is next scheduled to appear in court July 23. He faces up to 36 months in prison and up to a $10,000 fine, if convicted, the Early Bird Paper reports.
