3 teens accused in Beavercreek vehicle vandalism

Two males and a female from three area high schools in Greene County are being charged stemming from a series of vehicle vandalism and theft incidents that caused more than $30,000 in damage.

A school resource officer at Beavercreek High School heard some chatter at school about three area juveniles and their possible involvement in the crimes, passed that information on to police and they used that intel to search the vehicle of one suspect and make the arrests of all three, Chief Dennis Evers told News Center 7’s Natalie Jovonovich on Tuesday.

The school resource officer’s work “shows that those relationships work,” the chief said.

Car windows were broken out, windshields were smashed and property inside vehicles was stolen, according to police incident reports. According to police, the incidents began with the teens jumping up and down on the vehicles. That progressed to smashing windows and ultimately to stealing property found inside the vehicles.

The crimes in neighborhoods in north and south Beavercreek, as well as in Beavercreek Twp., occurred during a whirlwind of criminal activity that began the night of March 20 and continued into the early morning hours of March 21, police said.

According to the police department, the teens — who range in age from 14 to 16 — will be charged in Greene County Juvenile Court with criminal damaging and theft-related charges because of the large number of victims (35) and the lack of cooperation from some of their parents.

The juveniles are from Beavercreek and Xenia high schools and the Greene County Career Center, according to police.

If convicted, the court could fine them and order them to make restitution to the victims.
