Alcohol found at fatal crash that killed teen

The names two teenagers injured in a early Sunday morning fatal crash have been identified.

Matthew King, 20, of West Liberty, and Mayci Powell, 17, of Mechanicsburg, were injured in the crash. Powell was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital and is listed in serious condition. King was taken to Urbana Mercy and was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital. He is listed in stable condition.

Mackenzee Hartley, 18, died in the crash.

None were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. Alcohol was located at the scene of the accident and is believed to be a contributing factor.

A 2015 Mechanicsburg High School graduate died in a crash early Sunday morning, according to school officials.

Mackenzee Hartley, who graduated two weeks ago, died in the crash, according to Mechanicsburg Superintendent Danielle Prohaska.

Grief counselors and clergy will be available for students today at the high school, Prohaska said.

A second, unidentified student was also injured in the crash, according to school officials.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has not released names of the other two teens involved in the crash.

Three juveniles were ejected during an early morning crash at state Route 296 and Upper Valley Pike.

A teenage driver was headed west at the intersection just before 3 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle went off the roadway to the right and struck an embankment, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver and two teenage passengers, a boy and girl, were ejected.

The driver and the girl passenger were taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. The driver is listed in serious condition, and the female passenger is in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

A male passenger was taken to Urbana Mercy Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, deputies said.

The crash remains under investigation, and deputies tonight said they were unable to release what type of vehicle was involved in the crash, nor the specific ages of the crash victims.
