— One mother has decided no more Santa’s spy for her house and has allowed her family’s Elf on the Shelf, “George,” to retire.
Christy Heins said she was recently at church when her pastor explained that Advent is supposed to be a peaceful season George the Elf didn’t fit into that plan of peace so Heins came up with the idea of the elf retiring from his magical post to become a toy to be loved and played with.
The Illinois mother -- or was it Santa -- wrote a letter to her three kids explaining George’s “decision” to go into the next phase of his life.
Heins posted the letter to Facebook to help other parents who have also found themselves running out of Elf on the Shelf ideas or who simply want a break.
