Missouri woman passes through area on 800-mile walk to Arlington

A Missouri woman is walking more than 800 miles to Arlington National Cemetery.

News Center 7 caught up with Deb McLucas on Tuesday in Brookville as she is traveling through Ohio.

“They said, ‘How do you know you can do this?’” said McLucas, of Rolla, Mo. “I said I don’t. But you don’t until you try.”

McLucas left Illinois 10 days ago. Her husband, Clayton John “Mac” McLucas, died five years ago and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

He served 24 years in the military, and spent time in Korea and Vietnam.

McLucas is doing the walk to honor her husband and other veterans.

“I have to decide who I am and am I really as strong as Mac thought I was and so far I figured out I am,” McLucas said. “Maybe I haven’t walked the full 806.9 miles but I’ll tell you, what I figured out I’m a survivor. I’m a judge of character.”

McLucas hopes to arrive at Arlington on Oct. 10.
