Middletown elementary went on lock-down after BB gun found

UPDATE @ 3:30 p.m.:

The BB gun was brought to the attention of school administrators, said Destini Burns, the district’s spokeswoman. She said the entrances and exits were immediately locked for a short time. She said the school day started on time “without a hitch.”

Burns said no shots were fired and no one was injured. She didn’t know if the student was a boy or girl or their grade.

The elementary school has students in grades kindergarten through fifth.

INITIAL REPORT:

Wildwood Elementary School was placed on a soft lock-down before school started this morning after a student was found with a BB gun, according to Principal Keri Hensley.

In a letter to parents, Hensley wrote: “This caused concern and the student was quickly apprehended and turned over to authorities. I wanted to assure you that school is continuing as normal today and all students are safe.”

Middletown Division of Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw said School Resource Officer Robyn Stone apprehended the student.

More information may be released later today, Muterspaw said.
