Troopers: Wrong-way crash on I-70 ‘could have been a whole lot worse’

State troopers said a wrong-way crash “could have been a whole lot worse” after a car slammed into semi head-on on Interstate 70 in Clark County Friday morning.

Sgt. Jason Cadle of the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they were first notified before 6 a.m. of a car traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70.

Before the vehicle was located by emergency crews, the car crashed head-on into a semi near the Snider Road overpass on Interstate 70 East.

Neither driver was injured, but the driver of the car was observed by medics at the scene.

Cadle described the crash as “minor” with the car suffering significant damage and the semi suffering minor damage.

Investigators said they’re not sure why the driver was going the wrong-way, but said a medical condition might be to blame. Cadle said state troopers were also not sure where the driver entered the highway.

Additional details were not available.

FIRST REPORT

A wrong-way crash has been reported in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the Snider Road overpass.

Initial reports indicate a wrong-way driver sideswiped a semi-tractor trailer and was off the road. We are hearing there are no injuries.

Fire crews on the scene have blocked the right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 for the investigation.
