WPAFB Airmen return home after 2-month deployment assisting FEMA with vaccine administrations

WPAFB — After a two-month deployment helping the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with vaccine administration, Wright-Patt Airmen will return home.

The airmen from the 88th Medical Group have been at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The team was a part of the Department of Defense’s COVID-19 response operation Type Team 1, stated a release from Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

The team is capable of administering up to 6,000 vaccinations a day.

The Airmen from Wright-Patt joined about 2,700 others from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and Air Force already supporting the federal vaccination effort in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and in the U.S. Virgin islands.

The team will return home around 4:30 p.m. today.
