Squatters appeared to live in Dayton house before fire

UPDATE @ 8:18 a.m.:

Fire officials believe squatters may have been living in a vacant Dayton house before it caught fire this morning.

According to firefighters, the fire on Orleans Street near Albany Street is suspicious and $15,000 in damage was caused by the flames.

The fire is believed to have started in the first floor of the house and spread to damage the entire building, investigators said.

It’s likely the residence will have to be torn down following this morning’s fire, firefighters said.

INITIAL REPORT:

A working fire has been reported in Dayton.

The fire was reported shortly before 7 a.m. on Orleans Street near Albany Street.
