High winds this afternoon

DAYTON —Severe storms tore through the Miami Valley overnight and into Wednesday morning, but we aren't completely done with the impactful weather just yet.

Winds will be picking up from the west for the afternoon and evening. Gusts could reach up to 40 mph and that can create issues on the roads.

Wind advisory has been issued for the entire Miami Valley from 12 p.m. Wednesday till 1 a.m. Thursday. Winds will be sustained from 15 to 25 mph with gusts from as high as 40 to 50 mph possible.

High profile vehicles like semi trucks and SUVs will feel the strong gusts the most. Drivers traveling north or south on Interstate 75 will have the gusts running into them and if you travel west on Interstate 70 you will be driving into the wind.

Make sure to leave plenty of space between you and the cars around you since gusty winds can cause high profile vehicles to swerve or lose control.
