UPDATE @ 12:05 p.m. (July 15): Carlisle Police Chief Mike Bruck on Saturday said Carlisle police are working together with the Warren County Sheriff's Office, but that the sheriff's office has the lead in the investigation because they have a more experienced staff and resources. He said he is not able to comment on the ongoing investigation.

The sheriff's office said Lt. John Faine would not release further information until Monday.

UPDATE @ 8:30 p.m.: "Although the remains have not yet been identified, initial reports have led investigators to believe they are that of a stillborn baby," Warren County Sheriff's Lt. John Faine said in a statement released moments ago.

The remains, discovered in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of Eagle Ridge Drive, have been taken to the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory for analysis, Faine said.

The sheriff's office is working the case with Carlisle police and the Warren County Coroner's office.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the sheriff's office, 513-695-1522.

UPDATE @ 7:15 p.m.:  Remains, possibly human, have been unearthed during a dig conducted by Warren County authorities near pine trees behind a home in Carlisle.

Warren County Sheriff’s Crime Scene and the coroner went to the address on Eagle Ridge Drive on specific information from a specific source that “possibly some skeletal remains in the backyard of this property,” Sheriff’s Lt. John Faine said.

“We have recovered some things that are potentially remains,” he said.

Investigators are thinking that whatever has been found has been there “maybe 10 to 12 weeks,” but it will be up to the coroner to determine exactly how long the remains have been at that location.

Faine said he could not speak to whether the remains are that of an infant.

The case is not being investigated as a missing persons case, the lieutenant said.

“It’s an ongoing investigation,” he said.

Authorities arrived at the address more than three hours ago and have been digging in the backyard of the home, near the tree line of the property, and going through the home’s garage.

Faine said neighbors have nothing to worry about in light of the discovery.

“We’re not investigating any kind of report of any horrendous homicide or anything like that,” he said. “There is nothing ... that leads us to believe that anyone in the neighborhood has to be worried about any threat or danger or anything like that."
