Vandalia police seek answers in playground fire

VANDALIA – The Vandalia fire and police departments are looking for any information to assist in identifying who set fire to a local elementary playground.

The fire was reported Tuesday around 3:30 a.m., with major damage to a large yellow slide. There is no estimate on damages, as the investigation is ongoing.

Demmitt Elementary School, 1010 E. National Rd., is home to grades pre-kindergarten through third.
